Title: Business Systems Analyst BFS Payments / ISO 20022
Location: Brokerage, NJ/Los Angeles Inter, CA
Duration: 6+ Months
Salary Range: $45- $48 an hour
We are seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) with strong experience in Banking and Financial Services (BFS) Payments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on knowledge of Real-Time Payments (RTP), ISO 20022 messaging, ACH, Wire Transfers, and Check-based payment processing.
The BSA will work closely with business stakeholders, product teams, technology teams, and QA to gather requirements, define payment workflows, and support enhancements across payment systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, document, and translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications and user stories.
- Work closely with business, product, operations, and technology stakeholders to define payment solutions.
- Provide strong domain expertise across Real-Time Payments (RTP), ACH, Wire Transfers, and Check-based payments.
- Understand ISO 20022 messaging standards, payment message structures, data elements, and end-to-end payment flows.
- Analyze payment processing workflows including initiation, validation, clearing, settlement, exceptions, and reconciliation.
- Create BRDs, FRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and functional specifications.
- Develop and maintain payment process flows and business/system diagrams using Client Visio.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with development and QA teams throughout SIT, UAT, and production implementation.
- Perform gap analysis, impact analysis, and support payment system enhancements and modernization initiatives.
- Identify and document business rules, payment validations, exceptions, and downstream system impacts.
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings and requirement-gathering sessions.
- Support issue analysis and troubleshooting related to payment processing.
Required Skills
- Strong experience as a Business Systems Analyst / Business Analyst within Banking, Financial Services, or Payments.
- Strong understanding of Real-Time Payments (RTP) and payment processing.
- Hands-on knowledge of ISO 20022 messaging and payment message formats.
- Strong understanding of ACH, Wire Transfers, and Check-based payments.
- Understanding of payment lifecycle, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and exceptions.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Strong experience creating BRDs, FRDs, user stories, process flows, and functional specifications.
- Proficiency with Client Visio for process and workflow diagrams.
- Excellent analytical, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred
- Experience with payment modernization or ISO 20022 migration initiatives.
- Knowledge of RTP platforms such as The Clearing House RTP or FedNow.
- Experience with UAT/SIT and production payment implementations.
- Knowledge of SWIFT, NACHA, payment gateways, or banking APIs is a plus.
