Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Business Litigation Associate to join our litigation team. The ideal candidate will manage complex commercial and civil disputes from inception through resolution, working closely with partners and clients to develop strategy, conduct discovery, draft pleadings and motions, and support trial preparation. This role requires strong litigation experience, excellent written and oral advocacy, and proven discovery management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of commercial and civil litigation matters, including case assessment, strategy development, and execution.
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings with clarity and precision.
  • Lead and coordinate discovery efforts, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, managing document review and e-discovery platforms, and overseeing productions.
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions, witness preparation, hearings, mediations, and trials as needed.
  • Work closely with partners and clients to provide regular case updates, develop litigation strategy, and manage client expectations.
  • Draft settlement agreements, negotiate resolutions, and support alternative dispute resolution processes.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates and paralegals, delegating tasks and reviewing work product.
  • Manage case budgets, track time and billing, and contribute to business development and client relationship efforts.
  • Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with court rules and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • 3-8 years of experience in commercial and civil litigation at a law firm or in-house litigation team; candidate with more experience may be considered for senior associate level.
  • Demonstrated experience in discovery management, including e-discovery platforms, document review, privilege logs, and production workflows.
  • Proven track record handling commercial litigation matters, with experience drafting dispositive motions and other substantive filings.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; ability to present complex arguments clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience preparing for and participating in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial proceedings.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines concurrently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and to take ownership of cases with minimal supervision.
  • High ethical standards, client-focused mindset, and demonstrated professional judgment.
