    About Our Client

Our client is a rapidly growing battery energy storage system equipment distributor, financing provider and solutions partner serving commercial, industrial and utility-scale projects throughout the United States.

The company helps developers, EPCs, IPPs, asset owners and commercial energy users overcome the financial, technical and supply-chain challenges that frequently delay battery storage projects. Its model combines batteries, inverters and energy management systems under one coordinated contract, while providing access to leading manufacturers, competitive equipment pricing and flexible financing structures.

Our client is a small, highly entrepreneurial team where decisions are made quickly and every individual has a meaningful effect on company growth. This position offers direct access to the Managing Partner, technical leadership and strategic equipment suppliers.

    The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly entrepreneurial Business Development Manager – Battery Energy Storage Systems to generate new business, activate an existing lead database and convert qualified opportunities into signed BESS projects.

This is a true hunter position for someone who enjoys opening doors, initiating technical and commercial conversations and developing opportunities from first contact through contract execution.

Unlike many business development roles, this individual will not be starting with an empty territory. Our client has a database of more than 1,000 potential customers and industry contacts that has not yet been systematically developed. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to segment, prioritize and activate this lead base while building new relationships throughout the battery storage market.

The Business Development Manager will sell a genuinely differentiated offering. Customers gain access to BESS equipment, inverters, EMS solutions, flexible financing and coordinated project support through one commercial relationship.

This position requires more than traditional sales ability. Customers need informed guidance when evaluating equipment, manufacturers, system compatibility, commercial structures and project risks. The successful candidate must be technically credible enough to participate meaningfully in equipment-selection discussions rather than immediately handing every technical conversation to engineering.

    • Build structured outreach campaigns and follow-up sequences

    What We’re Looking For

    Required Experience

    • At least five years of successful quota-carrying business development, technical sales or commercial experience within battery energy storage
    • Direct BESS sales experience is mandatory; general renewable-energy or solar experience without meaningful battery storage experience will not be sufficient
    • Demonstrated record of originating, developing and closing complex battery storage or related energy-infrastructure opportunities
    • Ability to explain previous performance, quota achievement and individual deals in detail
    • Existing network of developers, EPCs, IPPs, asset owners, utilities, commercial energy users or channel partners that can be activated immediately
    • Strong understanding of how BESS projects are developed, financed, procured, constructed and commissioned
    • Technical knowledge sufficient to support equipment selection and preliminary project qualification
    • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams
    • Working knowledge of battery chemistry, C-rate, cycle life, degradation, augmentation, warranties, inverters, PCS equipment and energy management systems
    • Genuine hunter mentality and comfort conducting consistent, high-volume outbound business development
    • Disciplined follow-up habits and ability to work independently without extensive management structure
    • Strong CRM discipline using HubSpot, Salesforce or a comparable system
    • Ability to build, maintain and accurately forecast a qualified sales pipeline
    • Strong commercial judgment and confidence discussing pricing, contracts and financing structures
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Ability to explain complex technical and financial trade-offs to engineering, operational and executive stakeholders
    • US-based and able to maintain working hours aligned with Pacific or Mountain Time
    • Willingness to travel for conferences, customer meetings, supplier meetings and project-related activities

    Preferred Experience

    • Experience selling into or alongside EPCs on utility-scale or large commercial and industrial projects
    • Existing relationships within the California, Pacific Northwest, Mountain West or Texas energy-storage markets
    • Experience selling battery systems, inverters, PCS equipment, EMS platforms or fully integrated BESS solutions
    • Supplier-side, distributor or OEM experience
    • Experience selling equipment-backed financing or commercially structured energy solutions
    • Understanding of project-finance fundamentals, including the Investment Tax Credit, domestic-content adders and tax-equity considerations
    • Working knowledge of FEOC compliance and current tariff exposure for battery-storage equipment
    • Experience with microgrids, distributed energy resources, EV fleet charging or off-grid power applications
    • Familiarity with relevant UL standards, fire codes, interconnection considerations and commissioning requirements
    • Experience working in a startup, growth-stage or entrepreneurial organization

    Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate combines the drive of a true hunter with the technical credibility of an experienced BESS professional.

This individual already knows the market, understands how battery-storage projects move from development through procurement and can identify where projects commonly stall. They are equally comfortable prospecting into a new account, discussing system requirements with an engineer, comparing manufacturer options and explaining a financing structure to a CFO.

They are not dependent on a large corporate brand, extensive sales-support organization or heavily prescribed sales process. They are resourceful, organized, accountable and motivated by the opportunity to help build a growing company.
