    Surry Community College seeks Workforce, Technology, and Community Education instructors to provide engaging, accessible, and practical instruction that prepares students to apply new knowledge and skills in the workplace and beyond. Instructors use their professional expertise and current industry practices to create meaningful learning experiences for adult learners. .

    For data analytics courses, the instructor will demonstrate proficiency in data preparation, visualization, and interpretation using industry-relevant tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and SAS. The instructor will teach students to access and analyze datasets, identify trends and patterns, and communicate data-driven insights through dashboards, reports, and other appropriate visualization methods. The instructor will also demonstrate an understanding of foundational statistical concepts and their application to real-world decision-making in business and technical environments.

    Part-time instructors facilitate an inclusive learning environment, assess students learning through appropriate measures, provide constructive feedback, adapt instruction to meet learner needs, and participate in required professional development activities. Instructors are expected to maintain current knowledge within their area of expertise and bring relevant industry practices and technologies into the learning experience. Instruction will be delivered online.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    I. TEACHING

    a. Conducting in a professional manner all class hours as assigned by the course schedule and academic calendar.

    b. Creating correct, professional syllabi.

    c. Creating, administering, and accurately assessing substantive assignments and activities that support the college's general education requirements and Quality Enhancement Plan.

    d. Meeting classes on time and for the full duration of the published class time.

    e. Notifying the Director as soon as possible in the event of illness.

    f. Supporting and following college policies and procedures.

    g. Assuming reasonable responsibility for security, maintenance, and inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.

    h. Preparing and submitting accurate and precise pay and attendance rosters and other assigned documents when due.

    i. Maintain a clean and safe work area.

    II. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    a. Participating in college-sponsored professional development activities as schedule permits.

    General Qualifications

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and write as applicable to subject area.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    • Ability to apply mathematical operations required to tabulate student scores.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system.

    Required Qualifications

    Associates Degree or higher. Extensive knowledge of data analytics.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Associates Degree or higher. Extensive knowledge of data analytics.

    Industry-recognized certifications in data analytics, business intelligence, or data visualization are preferred. Relevant certifications may include Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), Tableau Certified Data Analyst, or applicable SAS certifications.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    No professional license or certification is required. Industry-recognized certifications in data

    analytics, business intelligence, or data visualization are preferred. Relevant certifications may

    include Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), Tableau Certified Data Analyst, or

    applicable SAS certifications.
