The Business Contracts Analyst role is a critical first-line position for our customers and our sales team, requiring you to manage a variety of complex processes in a fast-paced environment. You"ll manage critical pre- and post-contract execution activities; lead the gathering and communication of business requirements to stakeholders; provide regular and ad hoc reports to the Business to support decision-making and compliance tracking; and ensure the growing needs of WWPS"s complex processes continue to be met. You"ll contribute to existing go-to-market processes by ensuring contract workflows enable our sales team to move quickly and close deals.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen.

Key job responsibilities

This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong judgment, customer obsession, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment where precision and compliance are non-negotiable. You"ll work with contract processes while developing subject matter expertise in Public Sector contract requirements, government statutory regulations, and acquisition policy compliance becoming a go-to resource for the team in these areas over time.

A day in the life

As a first-line responder, you"ll triage incoming requests from our customers and sales, determining which can be resolved immediately and which require escalation or deeper investigation. You"ll follow established escalation paths for complex contract issues, seeking guidance from senior team members when encountering ambiguous or high-risk situations.

You"ll spend time responding to questions about compliance/contract requirements, signature processes, and filing procedures providing clear, accurate guidance that enables teams to move forward while maintaining strict compliance standards. You"ll review agreements ready for routing, conducting thorough due diligence to verify all approvals have been obtained and that all contract data is correct and complete before working with senior leaders to execute and close deals through WWPS systems.

You will build and maintain working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders answering questions from Sales about contract status, coordinating with Legal on approval workflows, and supporting internal teams with compliance documentation. You"ll proactively communicate status and share learnings with team members to scale efficiencies across the team.

About the team

The World Wide Public Sector (PS) Business Contracts team (BC team) is a specialized team within Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) responsible for managing the complex contract procurement process and compliance obligations for PS customers globally. PS contracts impose numerous bespoke requirements not typically present in the commercial sector including specialized documentation, compliance activities, audit requests, etc. Government agencies are required to work within the confines of stringent statutory requirements and acquisition policy regulations. These requirements can pose a set of risks that include serious consequences for non-compliance, which can include administrative penalties (e.g., suspension and debarment, which can have significant ripple effects), monetary penalties, and criminal penalties including imprisonment, all of which make contractual compliance essential to our PS business and the continued viability of AWS.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
