Job Summary
Coordinates and administers the universitys business continuity program, including governance processes, planning methodologies, standards, software administration, and institution-wide resilience initiatives across academic, research, healthcare, and hospital operations. Leads Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), continuity exercises, and program assessments while providing consultation, training, and technical support to departmental stakeholders responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating their own business continuity and IT disaster recovery plans. Collaborates with institutional partners to support compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and industry standards, including Joint Commission, AAAHC, and related continuity requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Coordinates and administers the universitys business continuity program, including policies, methodologies, planning standards, governance processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Administers and maintains business continuity planning software, templates, reporting tools, dashboards, and related documentation systems.
- Leads institution-wide Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), facilitates dependency mapping efforts, and identifies critical functions, recovery objectives, and organizational resilience priorities.
- Develops, maintains, and periodically updates institutional business continuity planning frameworks, guidance documents, and plan design standards.
- Provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to departments responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating their own business continuity and IT disaster recovery plans.
- Coordinates departmental planning activities and works collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure continuity and IT disaster recovery plans remain current, complete, and aligned with institutional requirements.
- Assists departments in identifying and documenting recovery strategies, manual workarounds, alternate operating procedures, succession plans, and resource requirements necessary to sustain essential functions during disruptions.
- Plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates business continuity exercises and workshops to assess organizational readiness and improve departmental capabilities.
- Collaborates with information technology, facilities, research, healthcare, hospital, and public safety stakeholders to identify critical dependencies and maintain viable recovery strategies.
- Collects, analyzes, and presents continuity metrics, trends, and program performance measures to support strategic planning and leadership decision-making.
- Supports compliance activities associated with applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission, AAAHC, and other continuity and emergency preparedness standards or best practices affecting healthcare, research, and clinical operations.
- Participates in accreditation reviews, audits, surveys, and preparedness activities involving business continuity, continuity of operations, and organizational resilience programs.
- Supports Emergency Operations Center activations, incident management activities, situational reporting, and post-incident recovery efforts as assigned.
- Develops after-action reports and corrective action recommendations following exercises and real-world incidents to support institutional improvement initiatives.
- Maintains awareness of emerging threats, regulatory requirements, higher education trends, and professional best practices related to business continuity and organizational resilience.
- Participates in professional associations, committees, conferences, and collaborative partnerships related to business continuity, resilience, and emergency preparedness.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
- Three (3) years of related work experience in business continuity, emergency management, project management, information technology, healthcare preparedness, or a related field.
- Experience and education may be substituted on a one for one basis.
- This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Emergency Management, Organizational Resilience, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating projects and collaborating with stakeholders across multiple organizational units.
- Certificates of completion in FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800.
- ICS related courses G-300 and G-400.
- Certified Business Continuity Practitioner (CBCP), Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP), or ability to attain certification within two (2) years of hire.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission, AAAHC, CMS, and related healthcare accreditation requirements.
- Experience supporting business continuity or IT disaster recovery planning efforts within higher education, healthcare, research, or hospital environments.
- Experience facilitating Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), continuity exercises, or organizational resilience initiatives.
- Experience responding to local, state, and/or federal emergencies.

Working Conditions
- Standard office environment with regular interaction across academic, research, healthcare, and hospital facilities.
- May work evenings, weekends, and extended hours during emergencies, planned exercises, special events, or continuity activities.
- Position is designated as on-call and subject to recall during campus incidents, emergencies, and Emergency Operations Center activations.
- Occasional travel between university campuses and affiliated facilities may be required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and move throughout academic, research, healthcare, and hospital environments.
- Ability to conduct facility assessments and participate in exercises, emergency response activities, and continuity planning efforts across multiple campus locations.
- Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
