Position Title: Bus Monitor

Division: Operations/Transportation

Reports To: Route Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Schedule: Hourly

Work Days: 178

Essential Duties:

  • Assist bus drivers on each route to ensure the physical and emotional safety of students.
  • Attend training meetings as required by the Director of Transportation.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of students. This assistance may include, but is not limited to, lifting, seating, safety belting, etc. of students.
  • Become familiar with, and demonstrate competence in, operating special equipment needed to transport students. This special equipment may include, but is not limited to, wheelchairs, mobility chairs, and lifts.
  • Assist the bus driver in conducting emergency evacuation drills as required by the Transportation Department.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff, students, and the public.
  • Legibly and accurately complete required reports on a timely basis.
  • Know, understand, and practice the expectations outlined in the Bus Monitor Duties and Responsibilities document.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE).
  • Ability to work well with staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
