Job Number Title: Building Supervisor CAT III Pay Schedule: AFSCME Plant Operations FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Principal JOB SUMMARY Supervises the operation of the total physical plant at an assigned school including the supervision of all custodial and maintenance personnel assigned. The Supervisor of Plant Operations and the Supervisor of Maintenance provide staff supervision and assistance for their respective operations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supervises and schedules the custodial crew in the care of the outside and inside of a high school building and the surrounding grounds. Extensive use of school grounds resulting from extra curricular activities requires complex scheduling of maintenance personnel. Supervises personnel who sweep, mop, wax, polish floors; dust and wax furniture, wash windows, shades and walls; clean and dust cabinets and lockers; vacuum and shampoo carpets; remove snow and ice; miscellaneous cleaning as required. Care of the grounds includes lawn mowing, general care of shrubs, and care of play areas to provide a neat appearance. Insecticides and herbicides are used routinely as required. Supervises and/or operates and/or maintains the heating system, the air conditioning system, the plumbing system, lighting system, and all associated mechanical/electrical systems at the assigned school on a continuous basis. Makes minor repairs to buildings and furniture. Ensures that the operation of all equipment is done in accordance with state and local building codes, in a safe and efficient manner. Organizes, plans, assigns work, supervises and informally evaluates the assigned personnel in the performance of their assigned duties. Maintains written and computer generated reports and records. Orders and/or stocks the necessary repair parts, fuel oil, custodial materials and other miscellaneous supplies required for efficient plant operation and maintenance. Interprets architectural, mechanical and electrical blue-line prints as required. Works with staff members, community groups, principals and teachers in administrative and other programs involving plant operations and maintenance. . MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Shall meet and exceed the minimum requirements established for a Custodian I position. High school diploma or its equivalence. Three (3) years successful experience in the field of custodial services, plant maintenance, or other related services. Demonstrated experience with supervision of employees. Grade Two Maryland State Stationary Engineers License is preferred.
