Building Services Director

Lead building safety, permitting, inspections, and customer service operations in one of America's premier coastal communities.

The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking professional to serve as its next Building Services Director. This highly visible leadership role oversees permitting, inspections, plan review, floodplain administration, and code compliance operations in a dynamic and growing coastal community known for thoughtful planning, environmental stewardship, and exceptional quality of life.

The next Director will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and mentor a talented professional team

  • Improve processes and enhance customer service delivery

  • Guide safe, high-quality development across the Island

  • Collaborate with residents, contractors, developers, and Town leadership

  • Help shape the future of a critical municipal department

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, organizational leadership skills, and a collaborative, customer-focused approach to public service.

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • ICC Building Official Certification (required)

  • Significant progressively responsible experience in building services, inspections, code administration, or related municipal operations

  • Experience supervising and developing professional staff

  • Strong knowledge of applicable building and safety codes

Salary Range: $160,000 - $175,000

Excellent benefits package including retirement benefits with 12% employer contribution match. Relocation assistance may be considered.
