Job Description

Assists with general maintenance and cleaning for buildings and grounds. Performs semi-skilled work to support facilities including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other repairs.

Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance work.
  • Maintains all equipment used to perform work.
  • Drives truck to haul trash.
  • Assists people in setting up stages and equipment for Bridge ceremonies and special activities.
  • Paints walls and fixtures; moves chairs and tables to set-up special group meetings and trainings.
  • May perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Assists in the maintenance of air-conditioners and heating systems in accordance with accepted practices and procedures.
  • Cleans and washes air-conditioner filters on a weekly basis.
  • Performs carpentry activities, which includes painting and masonry work as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
  • Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • At least 18 years of age.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
