The ideal candidate will possess the expertise to ensure that buildings, structures, and systems comply with all relevant codes, ordinances, and regulations. We are looking for someone with a solid background in the construction industry, exceptional communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of how to read and interpret current codes and ordinances pertaining to buildings and structures.

We are accepting applications for a Building Inspector I or a Building Inspector II position, contingent upon the qualifications and skill sets of eligible applicants.

Salary range for Building Inspector I is $22.96 to $35.59 per hour

Salary range for Building Inspector II is $26.58 to $41.21 per hour

Major Duties, Responsibilities

Building Inspector I:

  • Performs building inspections daily to ensure code compliance of framing, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Provides information to general public in matters relating to construction and code requirements and other applicable ordinances.
  • Verifies all work is completed per the approved plans and other related approved documents. Properly interprets code requirements and reads plans. Detects substandard materials and workmanship.
  • Answers questions from the public regarding building code requirements, local ordinances, and policies and procedures for inspections.
  • Maintains complete written records of inspections. Performs daily file maintenance and paperwork. Uses online permitting and inspection scheduling system for inspection completion to computer records.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Building Inspector II:

  • Performs building inspections daily to ensure code compliance of framing, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Provides information to general public in matters relating to construction and code requirements and other applicable ordinances.
  • Verifies all work is completed per the approved plans and other related approved documents. Properly interprets code requirements and reads plans. Detects substandard materials and workmanship.
  • Answers questions from the public regarding building code requirements, local ordinances, and policies and procedures for inspections.
  • Maintains complete written records of inspections. Performs daily file maintenance and paperwork. Uses online permitting and inspection scheduling system for inspection completion to computer records.
  • Trains new employees in procedures for completion of assigned duties
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Building Inspector I:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience in building inspections or in the construction industry.

Additional Requirements: Must obtain ICC certification as a Residential Building Inspector within six (6) months of hire. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.

Building Inspector II:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a Building Inspector.

Additional Requirements: Must possess ICC certification as a Residential Building Inspector. Must possess ICC Certification in any of the following: Residential Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
