PRIMARY PURPOSE:
T he purpose of the position is to serve as a liaison between the school, student's family and the community to enhance family engagement at the building level. T his position will collaborate wi th school and di stri ct staff to dev elop and support f ami ly engagement programming as well support in advocating for students an d f ami li es to ensure needs are me t and concerns are addressed .

E = ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
W orks cooperati v ely with school team members such as the pri nci pal, counselor, educati onal assi stant, teachers, and the school nurse to determi ne the needs of families and to assist them in working with agencies and community organizations to meet those needs.

Collaborates wi th school and di stri ct staf f to dev elop f ami ly engagement programmi ng.
Collaborates and problem solves with staff working with the bilingual community.
Perf orms and coordi nates i nterpretati on serv i ces through the di stri ct approv ed resources.
Support s families with coordinating appointments with the school.
A ttends parent and community meeting s as needed to support staff and f ami li es. 2
Conducts home visits to provide eligible families with updated information on communi ty resources and how to access them; helps f ami li es establi sh worki ng relationships with the school.
Core and acti v e member of school M T SS team, whi ch i ncludes meeti ng parti ci pati on and collaboration with school staff and families as appropriate.
Organi ze and f aci li tate workshops, meeti ngs , and ev ents that ed ucate and empower f ami li es on v ari ous aspects of thei r student's educati on and prov i de res ources to support their needs.
Collabor ate with school and di stri ct staff to gather school culture and cli mate, student voic e, fa mily voice, and other data point s that inform deci s ion-ma king.
I mplements and uti li zes centrally approv ed resources of communi ty serv i ces and agenci es and establi shes a f ami li ari ty and worki ng relati onshi p with those agenci es.
M ai ntai ns accurate records regardi ng all acti v iti es i ncludi ng f ami ly needs assessments, ref errals, f ollow -ups, and all requi red documentati on records.

F luency i n E ngli sh and the second language ( e.g., Spani sh, V i etnamese) highly preferred .
A bility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in both languages.
Strong understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to work with families from different cultural backgrounds.
A bi li ty to nav i gate and bri dge the gap between fami li es and the school env i ronment.
E x cellent i nterpersonal and communi cati on ski lls to work wi th di v erse f ami li es, staf f , and community members.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the building principal; works with A ssistant Director of Student and Family Support Serv i ces, bui ldi ng staf f i ncludi ng pri nci pal, teachers, nurses, counselors, soci al workers and educati onal assi stants.
EVALUATION: E v aluati on responsi bi li ti es are assi gned to the bui ldi ng pri nci pal.
WORKING CONDITIONS: T he worki ng env ironment characteri sti cs descri bed here are representati v e of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
T he usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require s itting, walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling. M ay requi re accompany i ng K SD staff on home visits. M ust be willing to travel to various locations and meetings using a personal v ehi cle.
