The primary goal of the Facilities Management Department is to economically provide and maintain a safe, comfortable, and attractive environment for all members of the university community. Facilities Management will support the University's mission through an ongoing commitment to excellence in service and efficiency.

Description of Work

Recruitment Range: $34,320-$49,821 The primary purpose of the position is to supervise housekeepers and floor care technicians; and perform floor care services (stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, mopping, sweeping and vacuuming) according to the planned schedule. This position is also responsible for other custodial housekeeping duties as assigned.

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position

Knowledge - Technical: Advises staff of specialized cleaning and maintenance techniques and processes for use in unusual situations or problems. Seeks out knowledge of improved products or methods and passes that information to team

Customer Service: Recognizes potential problems in service, and addresses and resolves promptly and respectfully.

Planning and Organizing Work: Plans daily or weekly work to meet established objectives. Assesses the needs of the unit and recommends minor changes in procedures, workflow and manpower assignments.

Training: Ensures on-the-job training. Encourages employees to learn improved skills and helps them overcome deficiencies through training.

Managing Work and Performance: Explains and applies work rules, standards and guidelines.

Managing Work Processes: Reviews work of staff upon completion to assess and problem solve. Seeks input from others in making and implementing changes in work processes that help employees perform the job better and serve customer needs .

Human Resources Management: Resolves minor problems and complaints on an informal basis Approves routine leave requests.

Interpersonal Skills: Motivates and encourages employees. Encourages customer feedback.

Communication: Facilitates communication among the work group in a manner that helps accomplish daily work goals . Serves as accessible point of contact with customers on comments and discussions about quality and timeliness of work group accomplishments and requested changes in process or outputs.

Safety and Health Compliance: Services, and/or replaces cleaning and maintenance equipment and machinery.

Minimum Training and Experience

Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, and one year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work.
