Description

Clayton Services is searching for a Building Engineer to join a thriving company in Northwest Houston. The Building Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting the safe and reliable operation of multiple commercial facilities, with a strong emphasis on HVAC systems, building automation, preventative maintenance, and general building systems.

Job Type: Direct Hire or Temp-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $30.00 -$35.00/hour plus discretionary bonus

Builder Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial building systems and equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC equipment, including rooftop units, chilled-water systems, pumps, controls, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose HVAC issues and complete minor repairs when appropriate.
  • Monitor and operate Building Automation Systems (Client) to identify equipment issues, alarms, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Perform routine inspections and identify maintenance or repair needs before equipment failures occur.
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building-system issues.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of life-safety systems, emergency equipment, and other critical building infrastructure.
  • Complete assigned work orders and maintain accurate preventative maintenance and repair documentation.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, scheduled maintenance, and building services.
  • Monitor vendor work to ensure projects and repairs are completed safely and appropriately.
  • Serve as a facilities point of contact and respond professionally to building-related service requests.
  • Support multiple nearby facilities and travel between locations as operational needs require.
  • Assist with facility improvement, renovation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, building performance, and operating efficiency.
  • Respond to occasional after-hours building emergencies as needed.
  • Perform hands-on building maintenance duties requiring the use of ladders, tools, and access to mechanical areas, rooftops, and other building spaces.
Building Engineer Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and HVAC troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (Client) and building controls.
  • Knowledge of commercial electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
  • Experience with chillers and chilled-water systems is highly preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment and building-system problems independently.
  • Ability to determine when repairs can be completed internally versus requiring a specialized contractor.
  • Ability to read blueprints, equipment documentation, and technical manuals.
  • Strong preventative maintenance and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable using computers, work-order systems, email, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient and capable of managing priorities across multiple facilities.
  • Professional and comfortable interacting with employees, tenants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work from heights, and perform physically demanding maintenance activities.
Building Engineer Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of commercial building maintenance, building engineering, facilities maintenance, or related experience preferred.
  • Commercial office building experience required.
  • Strong hands-on HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting experience required.
  • Experience supporting multiple commercial buildings or multi-tenant properties strongly preferred.
  • Experience with warehouse, industrial, or other operational facilities is a plus.
  • Building Automation System (Client) experience strongly preferred.
  • EPA Universal Certification preferred.
  • BOMI, SMT, SMA, OSHA, or other relevant facilities certifications are a plus.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Stable employment history with demonstrated longevity in previous positions strongly preferred.
