Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

Facilities Services provides safe, inclusive, and secure experiences for both Residential communities and Academic buildings where a diverse and innovative team of professionals encourage students to pursue academic excellence, personal growth, civic leadership, and responsibility. Efficient and effective programs and services are provided by competently trained and reliable departmental teams in affordable, clean, comfortable, and sound facilities equipped with current technologies. Position Summary

The Building & Environmental Supervisor position will supervise staff in maintaining a clean, safe, inviting environment for students, staff and visitors living or working in Residence Halls and Academic Buildings on campus. Provide leadership regarding to supply, budget/distribution and assists administrator in developing long term budgetary planning.

This is a mandatory position, as outlined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require certification or eligibility for certification.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

A valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Department prefers previous experience in Building & Environmental Supervision as well as experience working at a higher education institution.

  • Monitor telephone and handle situations as they arise. Example: employee absence reporting/steps to cover workload making sure all keys are returned at the end of the day and locked up.
  • Provide direction to staff when there are call out and prioritizing spaces that need to be cleaned based on business needs.

Leadership, training and coordination of assigned areas of Housekeeping Services

Essential Tasks

  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate assigned Housekeeping staff.
  • Determine and provide needed training, ensures staff have tools, resources, and knowledge to comply with institutions expectations.
  • Recommend and implement with management approval resolutions, disciplinary and grievance issues.
  • Inspect employees work to evaluate job knowledge, hold staff meetings, staff evaluations and recognition.

Key Responsibility

Manage/ensure adequate stock of supplies, equipment and properly maintained for uninterrupted housekeeping services.

Essential Tasks

  • Provides management support to ensure adherence to work rules, standards and guidelines, adjustments of workload as needed.
  • Monitoring special projects for better results.
  • Provides input to budget for area of responsibility and controls and monitors expenditures and usage.
  • Operates within assigned budget. Justifies major items, and provides accurate and complete estimates.
  • Manages and controls area material purchases and shop inventory in order to limit waste and loss.
  • This position is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory by utilizing the TMA system, auditing, and inputting required information for the assigned zone.

Safety and Health Compliance

Essential Tasks

  • Coordinates training, ensure safe operation of equipment and application of chemicals.
  • Maintain proper MSDS forms for all chemicals.
  • Discuss safety concerns with others and make recommendations through proper channels for resolutions.
  • Acts as a safety and health compliance liaison.
  • Works closely with safety office to ensure all staff attend mandatory training/updates.
  • Identifies and corrects potential conditions that affect employee safety and promotes safety standards.

Summer Conference

Essential Tasks

  • Coordinate housekeeping staff with summer conference schedule, set-up residence hall rooms, clean, distribute linen to requested rooms.
  • Prepare for the opening of schedules.
  • Monitor linen usage and have the ability to distinguish between soiled and cleaned linen.
  • Prepare for the opening of school
  • Coordinates furniture moving as needed and housekeeping staff with Summer Conference schedule clean/set up residence hall rooms.
