The City of Chesapeake is seeking applications for the position of Budget Analyst. While experience in local government budgeting is preferred, this position is also open to early-career professionals. The ideal candidate demonstrates intellectual curiosity, strong analytical abilities, and the initiative to work independently to develop solutions to complex challenges.
The Budget Analyst will join a talented and innovative Budget team in a city recognized for its stability and effective management. The Budget Department partners with more than 40 City departments to develop an annual operating budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) totaling more than $2 billion. This position provides the opportunity to build strong relationships with assigned departments and make data-driven recommendations to support City leadership.
A bachelor's degree in public administration, economics, public finance, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience. A master's degree in a related field is desirable.

Required Qualifications
Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, economics, urban and regional economics, public finance, or a closely related field.
Experience: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Special Requirement(s): Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in government, especially at the local level.
