    RE: Bridgewater State University and Brockton High School's Next Step University Program - Paraprofessional

    The Office of Exceptional Learning is seeking Paraprofessionals for students ages 18 to 22 in the Transition Program located at Bridgewater University. Paraprofessionals will assist special education teachers in providing support to students in the Next Step University Program located at Bridgewater State University. Paraprofessionals will shadow students who audit courses and/or participate in internships offered by Bridgewater State University and Brockton Public Schools. Paraprofessionals may also provide coverage for teachers.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work collaboratively with Brockton Public Schools special education teachers, Transition Team staff, and Bridgewater State University staff to support students (18+) with disabilities in navigating a college campus, auditing courses, and participating in internships
    • Support teachers in travel training students to increase their ability to utilize public transportation to access school on the campus and job sites
    • Work collaboratively with community partners
    • Attend students' college classes/meetings/internships/activities
    • Provide support and coursework assistance to students
    • Support students in self-advocacy in working with Bridgewater State University staff and internship supervisors
    • Support students in gradually and safely developing skills toward independence
    • Support special education teachers in managing individual student schedules related to classes and/or internships
    • Attend professional development and trainings, as needed
    • Work hours: 7:50 - 3:05 (Report to Brockton Area Transition Bat Center each morning and afternoon)

    Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Education for High Schools

    Compensation: According to contract. Additional compensation to be provided for traveling with students to and from the Brockton Area Transit BAT Center to Bridgewater State University.
