Software Engineering Intern Summer 2027

Location: Durham, NC | Assignment Type: Summer Internship | Target Start: Mid-May 2027 | Target End: Mid-August 2027

We are recruiting motivated Software Engineering Interns for a summer 2027 opportunity supporting Broadcom's Mainframe Software Division. This internship is ideal for students who are passionate about building high-quality software, working in Agile development environments, and gaining direct experience with enterprise technology used by many of the world's largest organizations.

About the Opportunity

Mainframe systems remain central to the digital economy, with a significant share of global corporate data and enterprise transactions relying on mainframe technology. Interns will join a collaborative software development environment supporting industry-leading products that are critical to many Fortune 1000 companies.
Recruiting timeline: Broadcom is expected to contact selected candidates between January and March 2027.

Internship Areas
Internship opportunities may be available across the following software engineering and technology areas:

Each intern will work on a Scrum team and will be supported by a technical mentor and manager throughout the internship.
  • Full-stack development
  • Assembler development
  • User interface and user experience engineering
  • Data science
  • DevOps engineering

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively within the team and across functional groups.
  • Perform feature development, code modification, testing, debugging, and software design analysis.
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews with other engineers.
  • Work within an Agile team to analyze requirements and write high-quality, testable code.
  • Apply a test-first approach where appropriate, including development of automated units, systems, and acceptance tests.
  • Use DevOps tools, pipelines, and testing frameworks to support development activities.
  • Contribute to team retrospectives and help identify and resolve team impediments.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization.
  • Resume required for consideration.
  • Graduate student or undergraduate entering junior or senior year.
  • Pursuing a degree in computer science, data science, cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
  • Mainframe coursework or IBM Z Xplore experience is a plus.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience or coursework with Python, Rexx, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Spring Boot, HTML, CSS, REST, Web Services, WebSockets, API development, React, Assembler, Angular, Node.js, Express.js, web service security, Jenkins, Gradle, npm, Artifactory, Cypress, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with automation tools is preferred.
Ability to pass Background, Drug Screen and if applicable Medical Screenings (i.e. Vision, Hearing, or Physical) if Required by Client.
