    Description

    Breast Surgical Oncology Physician Assistant

Patients facing breast cancer need a clinician who can turn uncertainty into a clear plan and keep that plan moving. You will partner with surgical oncologists from first consult through the operating room and recovery, so treatment starts on time and complications are caught early. This role matters because the quality of those handoffs changes outcomes, not just schedules.

    Performance Objectives

    • Complete new-patient and preoperative evaluations so a surgical plan, orders, and consent discussion are ready within the program’s standard timeline.
    • First-assist in the operating room and close perioperative handoffs so cases start prepared and postoperative orders are complete before the patient leaves recovery.
    • Own postoperative follow-up, identify wound, drain, and recovery problems early, and intervene before they become avoidable readmissions.
    • Bring complete case summaries to multidisciplinary breast conference and document recommendations so next steps are assigned and tracked.
    • Counsel patients and families on diagnosis, procedure choices, and recovery expectations so consent is informed and follow-through improves.
    • Keep clinical documentation and outcome data accurate enough to support quality review, accreditation, and timely communication with referring clinicians.

    Environment & Resources

You will work with breast surgeons, nurses, navigators, and tumor-board colleagues in a focused surgical oncology practice that includes clinic, OR block, and follow-up. Standard pathways, imaging access, and the electronic health record support day-to-day decisions. You report to the lead breast surgeon or advanced-practice leader and practice within agreed protocols and supervision.

    Essential Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program, with current national certification and state licensure or eligibility.
    • Hands-on experience in surgical oncology, breast surgery, or a closely related surgical service.
    • Proven ability to first-assist and manage perioperative patients within protocol.
    • Skill counseling patients through a cancer diagnosis, surgical options, and recovery.
    • Reliable electronic documentation and contribution to quality or registry reporting.

    Why This Role

    • A disease-focused practice where your judgment directly affects time to treatment and recovery.
    • Real partnership across clinic, operating room, and follow-up—not clinic-only coverage.
    • Multidisciplinary support so complex cases are decided with the full care team.
    • Success defined by patient outcomes and reliable execution, not a generic task list.
