Breast Sonographer - Full Time Opportunity!

Norwalk Radiology and Mammography Center

Summary:

Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills in US imaging.

Responsibilities:

Properly identifies patients by name/DOB as well as introducing himself/herself to the patient by first name. Reviews prescription for accuracy and completeness and completes/initials history form. Advises patients on proper exam preparation including dietary restrictions and appropriate attire. Explains procedure, answers questions/concerns and follows-up with patient when necessary.

Respects scheduled appointment times and communicates delays to reception staff and/or patients directly including wait times for Walk-ins. Reviews charge entry, edits exam or notifies appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes. Completes charge sheet accurately ensuring the CPT4 code matches the exam performed. Starts and completes examination in ADS workflow and records required information on log sheets.

Selects required transducer as well as positions patients correctly for optimal imaging.Proficient in scanning established US protocols. Applies knowledge of US physics. (i. doppler, color flow, 2D scanning, harmonics and instrumentation) Monitors and communicates with the patient throughout the exam.

Able to recognize and demonstrate skills of differentiating normal and abnormal sonographic anatomy. Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to the diagnostic findings. Correct annotation of anatomy, scanning plane and region of interest. Shows determination and resourcefulness in imaging challenging or new exams.

Evaluates sonographic images for technical quality and repeats images as necessary. Ensures prior exams and reports are available for comparison. Provides an accurate oral or written summary of the technical findings to the physician for medical diagnosis. Scans accompanying paperwork then verifies images in PACS.

Selects correct patient and updates necessary clinical history. Enters pertinent notes relating to present exam and indicates the reason for exam/location of concern. Indicates correct initials of the Sono

Follows universal precautions including the use of gloves, gowns and masks as appropriate. Cleans and disinfects between each patient and can perform/document high level disinfection appropriately. Disposes of needles and syringes in designated sharps containers, comprehends safe fill levels and seals containers appropriately for pick-up. Keeps work area, waiting rooms and dressing rooms clean and tidy and stocks work area with laundry and medical supplies on a daily basis.

Able to recognize specific psychological (i anxiety) and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is neede Promptly responds to situations which require a timely response and documents relevant information on incident forms. Able to locate and use all necessary emergency equipment (code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc). Able to initiate emergency response policy.

Assists Radiologist in interventional procedures such as US Guided Breast Biopsy. Initiates equipment service requests, updates service logbook and notifies supervisor as necessary. Active participation in maintaining break room cleanliness. Willingly performs other tasks to assist ancillary personnel pertaining to patient care.

Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Sonography. Minimum of 2 years of US experience preferred

Minimum Experience: two years

Desired: ARDMS certified in Ultrasound or must become certified within 1 year of hire date. ARDMS Breast Certification within 1 year of hire CPR.
