The Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking a 1.0 FTE fellowship-trained breast imaging radiologist to join our thriving academic practice.
We are looking for an outstanding, team-oriented radiologist who is committed to clinical excellence and has enthusiasm for education, research, innovation, and multidisciplinary patient care. The successful candidate will join a highly specialized group of breast imaging radiologists and play an important role in advancing the division's clinical and academic missions.
Clinical Practice
The position includes participation across the full spectrum of breast imaging and intervention, including:
Faculty members participate in resident and fellow education, multidisciplinary conferences, and breast tumor board. Our integrated breast practice provides frequent opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in breast surgery, medical oncology, pathology, radiation oncology, women's health, genetics, and the multidisciplinary breast clinic.
Mayo Clinic Arizona is a regional and national referral center for patients with breast cancer, serving patients from throughout Arizona, neighboring states, and across the country. Radiologists benefit from close working relationships with clinical colleagues, as well as strong support from medical physicists, scientists, research personnel, technologists, and administrative partners.
Division Highlights
The Breast Imaging Division has a broad and expanding clinical, educational, and research portfolio. We seek a colleague who will contribute to this work and help shape the division's continued growth.
The division has a strong record of early adoption and thoughtful implementation of advanced breast imaging technologies. Mayo Clinic Arizona introduced contrast-enhanced mammography in 2014 and contrast-enhanced mammography-guided biopsy in 2023. Significant investment in 3T breast MRI has supported the development of a high-resolution, fully ACR-accredited clinical protocol completed in approximately nine minutes. Molecular breast imaging further enhances our supplemental screening capabilities.
The division currently includes seven breast imaging radiologists. Recent annual clinical volumes include:
Our clinical practice uses Hologic mammography systems, GE ultrasound equipment, GE 3T MRI scanners, Epic electronic health records, Radiant RIS, and Visage PACS.
Education
Education is an important component of the division's mission. Faculty members are accomplished and recognized educators who have received numerous teaching awards and hold educational leadership roles within the division, the Department of Radiology, and Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have opportunities to teach radiology residents, breast imaging fellows, medical students, and other learners in both clinical and multidisciplinary settings, as well as serve as a mentor to their personal, educational and academic growth.
Research and Innovation
The division offers extensive opportunities for clinical, translational, outcomes, and health-services research. Faculty expertise includes:
Faculty members also conduct patient-centered and health-services research related to screening access and adherence, underserved populations, disparities, risk communication, clinical workflow, practice management, and the operational and financial performance of radiology services. Radiologists have access to strong physicist, scientist, research, and administrative support, as well as numerous opportunities for collaboration across Mayo Clinic.
Practice Environment
This opportunity offers a collegial and collaborative work environment, an excellent quality of practice, and a highly competitive benefits package. The position will primarily staff the breast imaging service in the Mayo Clinic Phoenix campus clinic building. Faculty members are provided with a complete home PACS workstation, including a 12-megapixel mammography display configuration, to support designated home shifts, increased flexibility, and work-life integration as emerging operational workflows and connectivity allow.
The Mayo Clinic Arizona Department of Radiology includes approximately 75 radiologists, five medical physicists, 24 residents, and six fellows. Planned expansion will increase the residency program to 32 residents and the fellowship programs to seven fellows. This growth is aligned with Mayo Clinic's Bold. Forward. Unbound. strategic initiative and is supported by significant capital investment to expand clinical services across the region.
Qualifications
Candidates must:
Experience with, or a strong interest in, emerging technologies such as contrast-enhanced mammography, molecular breast imaging, artificial intelligence, and breast cryoablation is encouraged.
