Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

 

This position will be located in Las Cruces, NM at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility in the Technical Services Department.

Responsibilities:

The position involves the direct supervision and direction of an organization of approximately 10 machinists and welders.  The Branch Manager is responsible for acquiring and assigning qualified personnel in his/her organization, conducting performance evaluations, planning salary actions, employee continuous improvement actions and making recommendations for hiring and promotions.  He/she will be required to interpret and apply organizational policies, provide leadership toward resolving employee problems and champion, coach, and motivate teams and/or team members.  He/she will provide direction to staff and assist with the development of department and company initiatives. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Lead and manage a team of machinists and welders, ensuring efficient use of time and resources while maintaining compliance with all industry and agency standards.
  • Ensure that documentation reviews, recalibration of measuring tools, pressure system recertifications, equipment preventive maintenance and building safety inspections are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assert commitment to continuous improvement and training of personnel.
  • Lead the Fabrication Shop team during audits to demonstrate compliance with established industrial and NASA standards, processes and procedures.
  • Acquire and assign qualified personnel to the Fabrication Shop as necessary to cover workload.
  • Perform and develop personnel evaluations.
  • Make recommendations for hiring and promoting personnel.
  • Interpret and apply organizational policies.
  • Resolve employee problems.
  • Champion, coach, and motivate team members.
  • Provide assistance in development of department and company reviews and initiatives.
  • Interpret and apply rules from Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Serve as an effective interface with our NASA customer.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements.
Qualifications:

Requires a BS degree in Engineering or related field and eight (8) years of related experience.  In lieu of degree, sixteen (16) years of related experience is required. Leadership skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills are required.  Previous supervisor experience and/or Project Management experience is preferred.
