JOB DESCRIPTION

The Watertown Unified School District believes athletics are an important extension of the educational experience. We are seeking a positive, knowledgeable, and student-centered individual to serve as a Varsity Assistant Boys Basketball Coach.

The successful candidate will work closely with the varsity head coach and coaching staff to support all aspects of the boys basketball program. This position plays an important role in the development of student-athletes, preparation for competition, and creating a positive and competitive program culture.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist the varsity head coach in planning and conducting organized, purposeful practices.
  • Provide individual and team instruction focused on skill development, basketball fundamentals, and team concepts.
  • Assist with game preparation, strategy, scouting, and in-game coaching responsibilities as assigned by the head coach.
  • Supervise and support student-athletes during practices, contests, tournaments, postseason competition, and team travel.
  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes while promoting accountability, sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic success.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with the head coach, coaching staff, student-athletes, families, and Athletic Department.
  • Support the philosophy, expectations, and development of the boys basketball program at all levels.
  • Follow all WUSD, Badger Conference, WIAA, and NFHS policies and expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A commitment to the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, player development, and game preparation.
  • The ability to effectively teach and communicate basketball concepts to student-athletes.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support the vision and philosophy established by the varsity head coach.
  • Dependability, professionalism, and sound judgment when working with student-athletes.
  • The ability to contribute positively to the culture and continued development of the boys basketball program.
  • Knowledge of WIAA and NFHS regulations; current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications are required prior to the start of the season.
