Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) is a year-long clinical teacher preparation program that prepares aspiring educators to become exceptional teachers in Boston Public Schools. As an AmeriCorps volunteer, you will provide direct service to students while learning alongside an experienced mentor teacher in a Boston classroom. Through a structured, gradual release of responsibility, you will progress from observation and instructional support to co-planning, co-teaching, and leading portions of classroom instruction alongside your mentor teacher, while using student assessment to strengthen teaching and learning. This hands-on clinical experience is paired with individualized coaching from experienced instructional coaches and graduate coursework that is intentionally connected to your daily classroom practice, preparing you to enter your own classroom with confidence. Residents serve in Boston Public Schools while earning a Massachusetts Initial Teaching License and a Master of Education from UMass Boston. Following graduation, BTR alumni continue to receive coaching and professional learning as they begin their teaching careers. We welcome applicants who are passionate about education, committed to serving diverse communities, and eager to learn through practice and reflection. Successful candidates are collaborative, adaptable, and dedicated to continuous growth. A bachelor''s degree is required before the program begins, and candidates must meet all applicable program and licensure requirements. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
