Job Overview
Sigma, Inc. is seeking a Bookstore Operations Assistant to support the daily operations of the bookstore at MassBay Community College's Main Campus. This position is ideal for candidates with strong customer service skills who enjoy working in a fast-paced educational environment. The successful candidate will assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors while supporting textbook ordering, inventory, and bookstore operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operations of the campus bookstore.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Receive, unpack, and stock textbooks and bookstore merchandise.
- Process incoming shipments and update inventory within the bookstore system.
- Assist students with textbook orders, digital bookshelf access, and access code redemption.
- Coordinate textbook distribution, exchanges, and returns.
- Support faculty with textbook adoption processes, submission deadlines, and online platform navigation.
- Work with online book distributors and publishers to resolve order or access code issues.
- Address customer concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bookstore environment.
- Perform general administrative and clerical duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with bookstore staff while working independently when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced higher education environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer applications.
- Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 30–40 pounds.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours during semester start-up and other peak bookstore periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail, bookstore, inventory, warehouse, or customer service experience.
- Experience working in a college, university, or educational environment.
- Experience with inventory management or point-of-sale systems is a plus.
