Bookkeeper — Maintenance & Renovation (AP/AR)
Kansas City, MO (Northland) | Full-Time, On-Site | $50,000–$60,000
Our client is a growing, locally owned property management company in the Kansas City Northland that has scaled its portfolio nearly tenfold in under two years — and is investing in the accounting team to match. The company manages residential properties through two affiliated businesses: a property management company and an in-house maintenance and renovation company. It's a values-driven, tight-knit team of about 25 where resourcefulness is prized, no two days look alike, and leadership genuinely listens.
This search is being conducted confidentially through Widger Talent LLC. The company's name and full details will be shared with qualified candidates at the first interview.
You'll own accounts payable and accounts receivable for the maintenance and renovation side of the business — the in-house crew and vendor network that keeps hundreds of Kansas City rental properties in shape. Every vendor invoice needs to be entered, coded, tied to the right work order and property, and checked against the work actually performed. That last part matters: when a water heater gets replaced, you're the person who knows to ask about the fittings, the labor, and whether a new gas line went in.
You'll work closely with the Accounting Manager and corporate accounting, coordinating across two related companies and keeping billing current so vendors get paid and owners get accurate statements.
Process accounts payable and receivable accurately and on time across related business entities
Enter, code, and verify vendor invoices against work orders and completed work
Communicate with vendors on invoice questions, missing information, and discrepancies
Support general ledger entries, reconciliations, and organized financial recordkeeping
Coordinate with operations and property management teams to keep financial information accurate and current
3+ years of bookkeeping or AP/AR experience
Billing experience in the trades or service industries strongly preferred — HVAC, plumbing, appliance, construction, or subcontractor billing. You know that a repair invoice has parts, labor, and follow-up questions baked in.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (3+ years preferred) and Excel
Property management software experience (AppFolio or similar) is a nice-to-have, not a requirement
High attention to detail, comfort juggling multiple deadlines, and discretion with sensitive financial information
Able to work fully on-site in the Kansas City Northland — being in the office is how you hear what actually happened on that job site
$50,000–$60,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, employee discount, and referral program.
