Description of Work

The primary purpose of the position is to enforce the Uniform Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act of North Carolina, the North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC Title 13, Chapter 13) and associated technical codes and standards, that the Act incorporates by-reference and which govern the design, fabrication, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of boilers and pressure vessels in conventional nuclear usage. To accomplish this, the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Deputy Inspector (IS) will conduct inspections and carry out investigations, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Management Preferences

• Comprehend complex technical data and documentation.
• Ensure that boilers and pressure vessels meet all applicable codes and standards.
• Clearly and effectively communicate ideas, information, and technical findings orally and in writing
• Interpret and apply rules and regulations pertaining to boilers and pressure vessels, including their application, fabrication, and design.
• A valid driver's license is required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a National Board In-Service Commission.
• Applicants must reside in Beaufort County or an adjacent county within 90 days of hire.
• Preference will be given to candidate that possess the National Board In-Service Commission (IS)

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or a General Equivalent Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in the construction, installation, operation, or maintenance of boilers and pressure vessels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.

Necessary Special Qualifications Must obtain two certifications within the first 9 months of employment by passing the required examinations per NC General Statute, Chapter 95 Article 7A, 95-69.15, and NC Uniform Boiler and Pressure Vessel Administrative Rules 13 NCAC 13 .0202 & .0203. Certificates: NC Inspector Commission & National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessels' Inspectors In-Service Inspector Commission Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
