Job Description – Body Shop Director / Manager

Job Title: Body Shop Director / Manager
Department: Collision Center / Body Shop
Reports To: General Manager / Fixed Operations Director
Schedule/Hours: Full-Time

SUMMARY:

The Body Shop Director/Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the collision center to ensure profitability, operational efficiency, high-quality repairs, exceptional customer satisfaction, and team accountability. This role requires strong leadership, insurance claim management knowledge, and the ability to create and enforce operational policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate must have extensive experience with collision center management software including Reynolds & Reynolds and CCC ONE (CC1), along with a proven ability to improve stall utilization, technician productivity, repair cycle times, and overall workflow performance.

Our collision center is currently certified with Toyota, Lexus, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW. Candidates must have knowledge of OEM certification requirements, manufacturer repair procedures, and brand-specific collision repair standards.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage all collision center operations including estimators, technicians, painters, detailers, parts coordination, and office staff.
  • Monitor and improve repair cycle times from vehicle check-in to delivery.
  • Track and maximize stall usage, technician efficiency, and shop productivity.
  • Ensure all insurance claims are processed accurately and efficiently.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce shop policies and operational procedures.
  • Maintain high standards for repair quality, customer communication, and CSI performance.
  • Review estimates and supplements for accuracy and profitability.
  • Work closely with insurance companies to ensure timely approvals and claim resolution.
  • Utilize Reynolds & Reynolds and CCC ONE (CC1) systems daily for operational tracking and reporting.
  • Create KPI tracking systems to monitor shop performance metrics.
  • Maintain compliance with OEM repair procedures, manufacturer certifications, dealership standards, and safety regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee daily workflow and scheduling of repair orders.
  • Analyze and improve cycle times, touch times, and overall repair efficiency.
  • Track technician productivity and maintain proper stall allocation.
  • Review work in progress daily and ensure vehicles move efficiently through production stages.
  • Conduct daily production meetings with staff.
  • Ensure supplements are written and submitted promptly to minimize delays.
  • Monitor parts ordering and receiving to avoid repair interruptions.
  • Maintain proper communication with customers regarding repair status and timelines.
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop collision center employees.
  • Establish accountability standards and corrective action procedures when necessary.
  • Generate reports and performance metrics using Reynolds & Reynolds and CCC ONE.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors, insurance adjusters, and OEM partners.
  • Ensure all OEM certification standards are maintained and properly documented.
  • Assist with manufacturer certification audits and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure technicians follow proper OEM repair procedures for certified brands.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Control departmental expenses while maximizing profitability.
  • Assist with customer concerns and escalated situations professionally and efficiently.
  • Ensure all repairs meet dealership, manufacturer, and insurance quality standards.
  • Oversees and approves payroll. Must learn to complete payroll. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of collision center management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of collision repair processes and insurance claims.
  • Extensive experience with:
    • Reynolds & Reynolds
    • CCC ONE (CC1)
  • Knowledge of OEM certifications and repair procedures for:
    • Toyota
    • Lexus
    • Porsche
    • Mercedes-Benz
    • Audi
    • BMW
  • Proven experience improving:
    • Cycle times
    • Stall utilization
    • Technician productivity
    • Shop profitability
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create and implement operational policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in both office and shop environments.
