Job Summary and Qualifications

As our Clinical Specialist, you would provide clinical pharmacy services for all the patients to ensure safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution, and control of all medications. If you are dedicated to caring for the well-being of others, this could be your next opportunity.

What you will do in this role

  • You will coordinate and assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical pharmacy programs to ensure clinical services meet the requirements and needs of the patient population and community.
  • You will provide clinical pharmacy support and execute clinical pharmacy programs for all patient areas.
  • You will review medication orders and quality of technicians work to ensure appropriateness of drugs ordered, dosage, route, and interactions. Adjust medications, dosage, schedule as appropriate for patient condition as per policy.
  • You will ensure medications are safely dispensed to patients in accordance with age-specific guidelines.
  • You must follow appropriate procedures for the sterile preparation of IV admixtures in compliance with USP 797/800 standards.

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Actively participates in the provision of training and mentorship within peer group and pharmacists in oncology service line including pharmaceutical care and disease state management.
  2. Works closely with multidisciplinary team and provides backup support to service lines where appropriate and as assigned.
  3. Participates as an active committee member within assigned service line and additional meetings as assigned.
  4. Provides clinical expertise in area of service line as well as additional clinical programs as assigned.
  5. Serves as primary preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in oncology service line and fulfills all documentation responsibilities.
  6. Communicates effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and family members where appropriate.
  7. Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, disease state appropriateness relative to drug and dose.
  8. Provides accurate and timely medication information as needed to all healthcare professionals.
  9. Takes a lead role in working within clinical initiatives improving patient safety and medication use.
  10. Facilitates or assists in the medication utilization evaluation process.
  11. Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.
  12. Supports and participates in the goals of the organizations quality improvement metric and financial resilience goals, risk management, and patient safety programs to include, but limited to National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures, regulatory compliance, and HCAHPS medication-related initiatives.
  13. Performs drug class reviews and prepares drug monographs for committee submission and review.
  14. Participates in all aspects of managing the drug formulary.
  15. Participates in additional department functions to support the operations of the pharmacy department.
  16. Competent to fulfill Pharmacist job responsibilities when needed.
  17. Requires 3 years experience in area of specialty or completion of PGY-1 residency with 1 year experience or completion of PGY-2 pharmacy residency or fellowship.
  18. Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) or other nationally accredited certification required to obtain within a year of hire.

What qualifications you will need

  • Bachelors of Science or Pharm.D. degree in Pharmacy from College of Pharmacy.
  • Experience as a pharmacist in an acute-care hospital setting or general pharmacy practice residency preferred.
  • Current FL Pharmacist license or license eligible.
