BMVP - Community Health Technology VISTA

An AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer serving at Downtown Billings will bridge a critical capacity gap in our community''s behavioral health and justice diversion pathways. Based in the heart of Montana''s largest regional service hub, their small, collaborative team works closely with partners across healthcare, law enforcement, and local government. Currently, low-income individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges frequently cycle through crisis response and the justice system. While our Multidisciplinary Alternative Pathway (MAAP) connects participants to care, the community lacks a unified data structure to measure stabilization outcomes or track referral gaps. The VISTA will address this systemic gap by developing a standardized MAAP data system, conducting an updated community impact study, and building sustainable, partner-facing resources like Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reporting templates. This position offers a unique advantage for anyone pursuing a career in public health, criminal justice, public policy, or social work. The VISTA will sit at the table with city leaders, judges, and healthcare executives, turning data into actionable community solutions. The successful VISTA will be an organized, self-motivated individual who loves asking questions, excels at working with information or spreadsheets, and possesses strong writing skills. A background in social sciences or data is helpful but not required; curiosity and a willingness to take ownership of a project are what matter most. This role offers an engaging blend of independent project management and high-level community exposure. In addition to gaining firsthand experience across multiple fields, you will receive supplemental housing and transportation benefits in the form of monthly reimbursements, direct access to organizational leadership, and the perk of working in a relaxed, collaborative office located right in the heart of a walkable downtown core.
