Blood Bank Manager| Clinical Laboratory Leadership

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Blood Bank Manager to oversee transfusion services, lead laboratory personnel, and ensure safe, accurate blood bank operations in a hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily blood bank operations and transfusion services

• Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate blood bank laboratory personnel

• Ensure accurate and timely blood typing, antibody screening, crossmatching, and compatibility testing

• Monitor blood product inventory, storage, distribution, and utilization

• Maintain compliance with AABB, CAP, CLIA, and applicable regulatory standards

• Oversee quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory safety procedures

• Investigate transfusion reactions, testing discrepancies, and complex blood bank cases

• Coordinate staffing, scheduling, workflow, and departmental priorities

• Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation, and regulatory reports

• Support laboratory inspections, audits, and accreditation requirements

• Implement process improvements to enhance blood bank efficiency and patient safety

• Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nursing staff, and laboratory leadership

• Provide technical guidance and support for complex immunohematology testing

• Ensure proper maintenance and troubleshooting of blood bank instrumentation

• Promote a safe, organized, and quality-focused laboratory environment

Qualifications

• Previous clinical blood bank or transfusion services experience required

• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) background

• Strong knowledge of immunohematology, compatibility testing, and transfusion medicine

• Previous laboratory supervisory, management, or leadership experience preferred

• ASCP certification in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or Blood Banking preferred

• Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) certification is a plus

• Knowledge of AABB, CAP, CLIA, and laboratory regulatory requirements

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to manage laboratory operations and resolve complex testing issues

• Must currently reside in Kentucky or be genuinely interested in relocating to Kentucky
