    You arrive onsite in Warren, MI, open CATIA V5, and dive straight into the heart of Body-in-White tooling. One hour you’re modeling a retractable pin unit for a resistance-weld fixture; the next you’re refining MIG-torch access and checking clearances on a GEO fixture. You collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, build, and project teams to troubleshoot fit-ups, validate 3D/2D packages before release, and keep design documentation tidy and traceable. Throughout the project, you adapt to design changes, develop clear Bills of Material, and spot issues early—offering practical, production-ready solutions.

    What you’ll tackle

    • Design Body-in-White weld fixtures and automation tooling using CATIA V5.
    • Create and update 3D models, assemblies, layouts, and 2D manufacturing drawings.
    • Engineer clamps, pin units, retractable pin units, slides, dumps, and related fixture components.
    • Support resistance-weld and MIG-weld applications within body-shop environments.
    • Interpret customer specifications, weld data/files, GD&T, and tooling standards to guide design.
    • Confirm tooling clearances, tolerances, and access for weld guns and MIG torches.
    • Validate comprehensive 3D and 2D design packages prior to release.
    • Generate Bills of Material and maintain associated engineering documentation.
    • Identify risks and design issues early; propose pragmatic, production-feasible solutions.
    • Incorporate modifications and change requests throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, build, and project teams to resolve tooling concerns.
    • Support tooling release processes and engineering data-management requirements.

    What you bring

    • 5+ years in automotive weld-tooling or automation mechanical design.
    • Strong proficiency in CATIA (ideally CATIA V5).
    • Hands-on experience with Body-in-White/body shop tooling.
    • Background designing resistance-weld and/or MIG-weld fixtures.
    • Advanced 3D modeling skills and precise 2D detailing capabilities.
    • Ability to design and iterate custom tooling with minimal supervision.
    • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and automotive tooling standards.
    • Skill in interpreting customer specs, weld files, and engineering documents.
    • Experience in automotive automation, tooling, or machine-build environments.

    Preferred extras

    • Prior Honda tooling or program exposure.
    • Familiarity with Honda tooling standards and specifications.
    • GEO fixture/tooling experience.
    • Framing, bodyside, or subassembly tooling background.
