Mission
We are seeking a BIW Structural CAE Engineer to join our technical design development team in Auburn Hills, MI. In this role, you will lead system and component-level Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations for Body-in-White (BIW) structures. Working across early concept phases through detail design, you will perform virtual evaluations-including NVH, durability, and crash analysis-to generate actionable design recommendations and drive structural performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Modeling & Simulation: Build Rapid Concept Design (RCD) models and finite element models (FEM) to evaluate NVH, basic durability, and crush performance; perform linear and non-linear FEA to compute sectional forces, stress, strain, and modal responses.
Benchmarking & Optimization: Conduct competitive architecture and component benchmarking for BIW systems; utilize topology optimization techniques to inform structural efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with advanced design teams, internal CAE groups, and external suppliers to track design progress, implement standard methodologies, and ensure timely model delivery.
Physical-to-Virtual Correlation: Work closely with test engineering teams to validate virtual simulation results against physical test data to continuously improve model accuracy.
Methodology Development: Stay aligned with automotive industry advancements in simulation tools and RCD methodologies to expand internal technical capabilities.
Tracking & Reporting: Document analysis results, track BIW design iterations, and present technical summaries to engineering leadership when required.
Profile
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
Experience: 5+ years of industry engineering experience in CAE modeling and structural simulation.
Technical Proficiency: Hands-on proficiency in linear/non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and building RCD/CAE models for NVH and static analysis.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of automotive materials, welding, joining methods, and manufacturing constraints.
Preferred Experience & Software Toolset:
Proficiency with CAE pre/post-processing and solver tools (e.g., ANSA, NASTRAN, LS-DYNA).
Experience with CAD/PLM environments (e.g., NX, Teamcenter) and dedicated Rapid Concept Design (RCD) platforms.
Hands-on experience executing topology optimization.
