Biomedical Equipment Technician III- Imaging

Summary:

Maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. Demonstrates a mastery of skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex biomedical / imaging equipment. Provides education/training to BMET I and IIs and others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of the device / system.

Minimum Qualifications:

Formal Education Required:

  • Associate degree in electronics / biomedical equipment technology or military equivalent training.

Experience & Training Required:

  • Five (5) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of biomedical/imaging equipment.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) preferred.

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of practices and procedures, methods, tools, test equipment, and materials used in the use, repair, and maintenance of general and specialty biomedical / imaging equipment.
  • Demonstrates competency to use or learn computer applications to include (but not limited to); PACS, RIS, e-mail systems, word processing, spreadsheets and CMMS systems.
  • Demonstrates competency related to the use of service and repair manuals including understanding of operating instruction, service diagrams, flow charts and schematics.
  • Demonstrates competency related to oral and written communications and utilizes these skills in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Working knowledge of information technology / networking.
  • Possesses basic understanding and skills related to general electronics, electro-mechanical systems and devices.
  • Basic understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues.
  • Basic understanding of project management terms and methods.
  • Ability to travel to and from various locations in the region.
  • Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.

Level of Physical Demands:

  • Medium: Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or ten to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force continuously to move objects.
  • Hazards: Possible hazards include exposure to electrical shock, ionizing radiation, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure air, infectious disease, and various other hazards associated with biomedical engineering work.

Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
