    Position Overview Section

    We are seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) to support the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) by maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and supporting advanced medical and simulation equipment used in aeromedical evacuation and clinical training. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness, safety, and reliability of biomedical devices, high-fidelity patient simulators, and specialized military training platforms.

    The successful candidate will provide technical expertise for medical equipment maintenance, simulation operations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and instructor support while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force, OSHA, FDA, and accreditation standards.

    Essential Job Functions

    Biomedical Equipment Maintenance

    • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain biomedical and simulation equipment in accordance with manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on medical devices and training equipment.
    • Diagnose equipment malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, diagnostic software, electronic test equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
    • Repair or replace defective electrical, mechanical, and electronic components, including motors, transformers, circuit boards, and related assemblies.
    • Assess equipment condition and recommend repair, replacement, or upgrade actions.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, and service histories.

    Simulation Systems Support

    • Support operation and maintenance of:

    • High-fidelity patient simulators

    • Medical simulation equipment

    • Negatively Pressurized Conex Lite (NPCL)

    • C-130 Fuselage Trainer (FUT)

    • C-17 Aeromedical Evacuation Training Platform

    • Prepare simulation environments for scheduled training events.

    • Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and recover simulation equipment before and after training exercises.

    • Assist with simulation center operations and daily program support.

    • Support instructors during classroom and field training exercises.

    Training & Technical Support

    • Train instructors, medical personnel, and simulation staff on the proper operation and preventive maintenance of biomedical and simulation equipment.
    • Develop user guides, maintenance procedures, safety documentation, and instructional materials.
    • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to simulation program personnel.
    • Assist with student course preparation, classroom setup, equipment staging, badge distribution, supply replenishment, and administrative support.

    Safety & Regulatory Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations including:

    • Department of Defense (DoD)

    • Department of the Air Force (DAF)

    • The Joint Commission

    • AAAHC

    • CAP

    • OSHA

    • NFPA

    • National Electrical Code (NEC)

    • FDA

    • Inspect equipment and training environments for electrical and mechanical hazards.

    • Follow safety procedures when working around energized electrical systems and simulation equipment.

    • Properly utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    • Maintain operational readiness of specialized military training equipment while minimizing safety risks.

    Administrative Support

    • Document maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, calibration records, and equipment status.
    • Assist in planning equipment replacement and lifecycle management.
    • Participate in manufacturer training to maintain technical proficiency.
    • Travel, as required (up to 10 days annually), to support exercises, training events, and mission-essential activities.

    Minimum Position Requirements

    • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.

    • Minimum 2 years of biomedical equipment technician experience.

    • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating biomedical equipment.

    • Knowledge of electronic systems, medical device hardware, software, and integrated medical technologies.

    • Ability to interpret:

    • Electrical schematics

    • Technical drawings

    • Blueprints

    • OEM service manuals

    • Experience using electronic diagnostic and calibration equipment.

    • Knowledge of:

    • Biomedical equipment regulations

    • Medical device safety standards

    • Preventive maintenance practices

    • Medical equipment lifecycle management

    • Understanding of applicable DoD, Joint Commission, AAAHC, CAP, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and FDA requirements.

    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including:

    • Word

    • Excel

    • PowerPoint

    • Teams

    • SharePoint

    • Adobe Acrobat

    • Zoom

    • Ability to maintain electronic maintenance records and documentation.

    • Ability to troubleshoot complex electronic and electromechanical systems.

    • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 51 pounds (or more with appropriate assistance) in accordance with NIOSH guidance.

    • Ability to pass a color vision test.

    • Valid U.S. driver's license.

    • Successful completion of USAFSAM onboarding requirements.

    • Must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to performance.

    Highly Desired Qualifications

    • Military biomedical equipment maintenance experience.

    • Military medical or deployment experience.

    • Experience supporting Air Force medical simulation programs.

    • Familiarity with:

    • Air Force Technical Order (TO) System

    • Learning Management Systems (LMS)

    • Audio/Visual systems

    • Hyper-realistic simulators

    • Task trainers

    • Moulage development and application

    • Experience supporting military administrative processes.

    • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification.
