    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY: Invest in the future by providing young believers with engaging, hands-on, student-centered instruction from a Christian worldview in undergraduate courses (both lecture and lab) in the biology major. This position focuses on, but is not limited to, plant biodiversity, animal biodiversity, field biology, comparative anatomy & physiology, and ecology. A candidate with a Ph.D. in an organismal biology field or related discipline, such as veterinary medicine, horticultural science, or ecology, is desired.

    The faculty member will join a diverse but unified team of passionate, undergraduate-focused scholars who are committed to excellence in propelling young Christian biologists into careers and graduate studies in biology.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Mentoring and advising students in the biological sciences who are interested in veterinary school, zoology, and wildlife biology
    • Teaching biology courses related to area(s) of expertise
    • Teaching other assigned courses and labs in general biology topics

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Excellent communication skills
    • Commitment to developing a conceptual and principle-based approach to teaching
    • Commitment to a biblically consistent view of science, as articulated in the philosophy statement of the BJU Division of Natural Science
    • Exemplification of a biblical role model for students and colleagues
    • Willingness to attend the Summer Institute in Teaching Science, an on-site professional development program
    • College classroom teaching experience preferred

    An applicant must be a born-again Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
