About Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences focuses on three areas of research and teaching; 1) Cell and Molecular Biology – including biophysics, neuroscience, cell signaling, and developmental biology, and 2) Ecology, Biodiversity – including behavioral ecology, plant-insect interactions, conservation biology, restoration ecology, and evolution and 3) Physiology of Health and Disease including emphasis on human physiology and exercise physiology. The department offers undergraduate majors of study including Biology (B.A./B.S.), Molecular Biology (B.S./B.S.), Ecology, and Biodiversity (B.A./B.S.) Physiology of Health and Disease (B.S.) and Integrated Sciences (B.A.).  A concentration in Cognitive Neurosciences (B.A./B.S.) is also offered in conjunction with the Department of Psychology.  At the graduate level, the department offers M.S. and Ph.D. with a research emphasis in either cell and molecular biology or ecology and biodiversity. A professional science masters (PSM) is offered in Biomedical Sciences and a M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology.

About Pre-Health Education & Advising

Pre-Health Education & Advising provides academic and career advising for students from all majors who are interested in applying to medical, physician assistant, nursing, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy, and other health-related graduate programs. Pre-Health support starts before classes start in the freshman year and continues through all undergrad years and continues after graduation. The goal of advising is to support students in preparing for professional school and building the strongest foundation and the most competitive application/resume possible. Currently, DU has over 400 pre-health students and also a substantial number of DU alumni who continue to receive pre-health advising and guidance and assistance in applying to graduate programs.

Position Summary

The Prehealth Student Success and Program Coordinator provides comprehensive support for the Department of Biological Sciences and the Pre-Health Education & Advising program. This role combines student advising, program coordination, departmental operations, and administrative support to advance student success and ensure effective department operations. The position works closely with the Director of Pre-Health Education & Advising, Department Chair, faculty, and students to support advising initiatives, departmental operations, events, and strategic projects

Essential Functions

Pre-Health Student Success & Advising 

• Provide individual and group advising support for pre-health students and alumni pursuing healthcare careers in partnership with the Director of Pre-Health Education and Advising.
• Assist students on academic planning, professional school preparation, and application processes.
• Coordinate pre-health workshops, information sessions, outreach activities, and communications.
• Maintain student and alumni records, outcome tracking, and program assessment data.
• Provide administrative support to the Director of Pre-Health Education & Advising, including scheduling and program coordination.

Program Coordination & Department Operations 

• Coordinate administrative operations, communications, and business processes that support the Department of Biological Sciences and Pre-Health Education & Advising programs.
• Support with logistics for departmental events, workshops, meetings, student success initiatives, and community engagement activities.
• Maintain records, tracking systems, repo Successrts, and documentation to support program assessment and operational effectiveness.
• Provide administrative support for departmental leadership, faculty, staff, and students, including special projects and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with campus partners to support facilities, technology, marketing, communications, and other operational needs.
• Support Pre-Health and graduate programs through the development, maintenance, and enhancement of department websites and Digication content.
• Ensure compliance with university fiscal, administrative, and operational policies.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Two years of professional experience in student services, advising, program coordination, higher education administration, or a related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience in pre-health advising, academic advising, or student success programs.
• Experience in higher education administration.
• Experience with Banner/Ellucian or similar systems.
• Experience supervising or mentoring student employees
• Experience planning and coordinating events, workshops, or student programs.
• Experience collecting, tracking, and reporting program assessment data

Working Environment

• Standard office environment.
• Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
• Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

• Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 7.

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for the position is $25.00- $27.00.
