Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Billing Supervisor / Lead to provide hands-on leadership and oversight within an established medical billing and revenue cycle operation.

This role is designed for someone who understands the day-to-day mechanics of medical billing and can effectively supervise staff, manage workflows, and troubleshoot operational issues while remaining actively involved in the work.

This is not a high-level Director or VP position. The ideal candidate is a working supervisor who can balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on billing and revenue cycle support.

Experience with behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder (SUD) billing
is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day medical billing and revenue cycle workflows.
• Supervise, support, and provide direction to billing staff.
• Monitor claims activity, accounts receivable, denials, and payer follow-up.
• Ensure billing processes are completed accurately and within appropriate timelines.
• Assist with escalated claims, payer issues, denials, and other billing challenges.
• Monitor team productivity and help maintain accountability across billing functions.
• Identify workflow issues and opportunities to improve billing efficiency and collections.
• Provide training, coaching, and operational support to billing team members.
• Collaborate with leadership regarding billing performance and operational needs.
• Remain actively involved in billing operations rather than functioning solely in a management capacity.

Qualifications

• Strong professional background in medical billing and revenue cycle management (RCM).
• Previous experience in a Billing Lead, Billing Supervisor, RCM Supervisor, or similar leadership capacity.
• Hands-on knowledge of claims submission, payer follow-up, denials, accounts receivable, and reimbursement processes.
• Experience supervising billing staff and managing day-to-day workflows.
• Ability to identify billing issues and work directly with the team to resolve them.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working within an established operation with a high degree of individual accountability.
• Behavioral health, mental health, and/or SUD billing experience strongly preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who has progressed through medical billing and understands the work at an operational level. They can
lead from within the operation—providing oversight, setting expectations, supporting staff, and stepping directly into billing issues when necessary.

This position is particularly well suited for an experienced billing professional who is ready to take on greater leadership responsibility without moving away from the hands-on side of revenue cycle management.

Compensation:
$70,000–$85,000 annually, negotiable depending on experience.
