Benefits & Compliance Specialist
B&B Concrete Contractors is a multi-state commercial concrete company operating across Missouri, Arizona, and Arkansas, with affiliated labor and construction entities. We're looking for a detail-driven Benefits & Compliance Specialist to own the administrative and compliance backbone that keeps our people covered and our business in good standing across every state we work in.
This is a multi-threaded role at the intersection of benefits administration, licensing, and compliance. It suits someone who is highly organized, careful with sensitive data, and able to move from executing defined processes toward owning them — catching problems before they become issues and communicating clearly with carriers, agencies, and internal leadership.
What You'll Do:
Benefits Administration:
- Process employee benefit enrollments and terminations across medical (Aetna) and dental/vision/life/AD&D (MetLife), ensuring accuracy against carrier portals.
- Manage eligibility tracking and the enrollment notice process (insurance and 401(k)), including new-hire notices and follow-ups.
- Reconcile carrier data monthly — verifying that what's entered in the portals matches enrollment records — and resolve discrepancies with the broker and carriers.
- Coordinate COBRA administration and timely termination processing in the payroll/HRIS system, staying within required notification deadlines.
- Serve as day-to-day contact with the insurance broker and carrier teams.
Licensing & Compliance:
- Manage state contractor license applications, renewals, and registered-agent records across multiple states.
- Handle state tax, unemployment (SUTA), and withholding registrations triggered by new projects in new states.
- Maintain the licensing tracking system and monitor filing deadlines, renewals, and recurring state obligations.
- Track and flag state notifications and annual filing requirements so nothing lapses.
Onboarding & HR Operations:
- Maintain new-hire onboarding paperwork and templates across onboarding platforms, keeping forms current and accurate.
- Support onboarding/offboarding workflows, including inactivity and offboarding reporting.
- Assist with claims documentation (property/casualty and wage-related) and general administrative operations.
Process & Documentation:
- Build and maintain SOPs and reference materials for recurring processes.
- Produce monthly reporting on benefits, enrollments/terminations, and compliance status.
- Keep records organized in shared systems so work is documented, verifiable, and transferable.
What We're Looking For:
- 2+ years in benefits administration, HR operations, payroll, licensing, or a related compliance-oriented role.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working with sensitive/confidential data (PII), with a clear understanding of why data handling and privacy matter.
- Highly organized, able to manage many concurrent responsibilities and track them reliably.
- Clear, professional written communication — able to write emails and documents that others can act on.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and common business systems; ability to learn payroll/HRIS, carrier, and licensing portals.
- A verify-don't-assume mindset: confirms outcomes, follows established processes, and escalates issues early and completely.
- Comfortable working independently while knowing when a decision belongs to leadership.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with multi-state employer compliance (SUTA, withholding, contractor licensing).
- Familiarity with benefits carriers (Aetna, MetLife), COBRA administration, or 401(k) enrollment.
- Construction or trades industry background.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Why This Role Matters?
The person in this seat protects the company and its employees — making sure people have the coverage they've earned, that the business stays licensed and compliant in every state it operates, and that the records exist to prove it. It's a role of real responsibility and real trust, with room to grow into broader compliance ownership.
B&B Concrete Contractors is an equal opportunity employer.
