    Description:

    Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom instruction/activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of Bilingual or ESL certified teacher.     Job Summary:

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Instructional Support

    1. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments

    2. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom

    3. Assist teacher with maintenance of administrative records and prepare required reports

    4. Provides language support to EL students in core subject areas

    5. Assist in the preparation and presentation of lessons under the supervision of teacher of record

    6. Assist in obtaining books and materials ready for instruction in bilingual or ESL classes

    7. Works with students one-on-one, administer make-up tests, answer questions and provide extra skills practice as assigned by teacher of record

    8. Repeats or rephrases directions and checks to ensure student understanding

    9. Know students' names and interests to make class lessons more relevant

    10. Assist in the preparation of strategies and materials to help scaffold vocabulary development and lesson reinforcement under teacher's direction

    Student Management

    1. Assist teacher to configure the class into teams, groups or pairs for special activities

    2. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups

    3. Serves as a facilitator during learning activities to ensure student engagement

    4. Assist the teacher of record with student issues that may prevent student from learning

    5. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom

    6. Function as a liaison between classroom teacher and student

    7. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students

    Other

    1. Assist with Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) recordkeeping, filing and data/document collection

    2. Be a positive role model for students and support the goals of the campus and school district

    3. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance

    4. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned

    5. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district/campus personnel

    6. Assess students with languages other than English with state approved language identification tests (i.e. IPT)

    7. Maintain confidentiality

    8. Must be team oriented and able to assist in the care and safety of all special needs children on the campus

    9. Assume responsibility for maintaining classroom routine in the absence of the teacher

    10. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance

    11. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel

    12. Use professional information discreetly and judiciously

    13. Support and follow administrative and Board policy

    14. Represent the school system to the community in a positive and professional way

    15. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons and provide customer service

    16. Regular attendance is required.

    17. Perform all other duties as assigned by teacher of record or Multilingual/ESL Programs Director

    Copier, personal computer, video equipment, peripherals, and audiovisual equipment

    Physical Demands:

    Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.

    Occasional lifting and moving of moderate to heavy objects up to 35 pounds

    Repetitive hand motions

    Prolonged use of computer

    Steady phone interactions

    Frequent sitting

    Environmental Factors:

    Occasional district and statewide travel

    Occasional prolonged and irregular ours

    Occasional working alone

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or GED equivalent (Required)

    Associate degree or 60 hours from an accredited college or university (Preferred)

    Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate (Required)

    Experience:

    Minimum of two-year's experience working with children (Preferred)

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Ability to work well with children

    Ability to communicate effectively

    Bilingual (Preferred)

    Ability to instruct and manage student behavior

    Excellent, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
