About the Role

The Yard Goat / Yard Tractor Operator moves loaded and empty trailers between parking stalls, staging areas, and loading dock doors. This role supports transportation, warehouse, dispatch, and dock operations by organizing trailer inventory, positioning freight, conducting equipment inspections, and coordinating trailer movement by radio or phone.

Key Responsibilities

• Move loaded and empty trailers between parking stalls, staging areas, and loading dock doors.
• Track trailer inventory and check seal numbers.
• Position freight where dispatch or warehouse teams expect it.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip safety checks on the yard tractor.
• Report mechanical issues and equipment damage.
• Chock and unchock trailer wheels.
• Operate the hydraulic fifth wheel to lift or lower trailers.
• Monitor yard speed limits of 5-15 mph.
• Coordinate with warehouse supervisors, dock workers, and dispatch via radio or phone.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Clean driving record with limited or no moving violations, accidents, or DUI history.
• Ability to frequently enter and exit the cab.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when handling chocks or seals.
• Transportation, warehouse-lift, stocker, stock clerk, and general warehouse skills.
• Certified forklift capability for 20 lbs+.
