Beverly Petterson Bishop Associate Prof or Professor in Neuroscience

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University invites applications for the Beverly Petterson Bishop Professorship in Neuroscience, a tenured and endowed position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with experience. We seek an accomplished scholar with an outstanding record of research productivity and sustained extramural funding in neuroscience, whose work complements and strengthens existing expertise in the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program and Department of Biology, in areas such as cell and molecular neurobiology, the biology of aging and neurodegeneration, behavioral and systems neuroscience, neurological disease modeling, or developmental neurobiology.

The candidate will establish their research lab in the Biology Department, housed in the world-class Life Sciences Complex while being expected to become a leader and integral, highly collaborative member of Syracuse University's Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program. The Neuroscience program serves as a nexus for all campus neuroscience research and exemplifies strong cross unit collaboration by offering intellectual and technical expertise incorporating molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, and cognitive neuroscientific approaches to investigate basic, pre-clinical, translational, and clinical questions to unravel the relationship between brain and behavior. In addition to the broad research expertise in the Biology Department and Neuroscience Program, faculty further benefit from interactions with the Aging Studies Institute, and the BioInspired Institute at Syracuse University. In addition, the Department of Biology has strong research and educational ties to the adjacent State University of New York Upstate Medical University.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related field and demonstrate a rigorous, externally funded research program with a strong publication record and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Teaching two courses per year (1:1 load), research, and service.
