Benefits & Pension Coordinator
Location: San Antonio, TX
Pay Rate: Starting at $25.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Dean's Professional Services is seeking a highly dependable, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable Benefits & Pension Coordinator to support a leading healthcare organization in San Antonio, TX.
This is an excellent opportunity for a benefits, retirement, pension, or payroll professional who is confident working with complex employee benefit programs and retirement processes. The ideal candidate will bring strong benefits knowledge, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently research and resolve sensitive payroll, benefits, and pension questions.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter and quick learner who takes ownership of assignments, communicates confidently, maintains strict confidentiality, and understands the importance of accuracy when managing information that directly impacts employees' benefits and financial well-being.
Responsibilities
- Provide payroll support related to employee benefit deductions through BenefitFocus, including reviewing eligibility, qualifying life events, benefit changes, and employee inquiries.
- Audit benefit deductions and retirement contributions to ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Provide audit, payment, and submission support for Teacher Retirement System (TRS) and Optional Retirement Program (ORP) plans.
- Perform and support pension and retirement contribution calculations and applicable limits.
- Research and apply retirement provisions and payroll requirements associated with SECURE 2.0.
- Identify and correct situations where employees may be ineligible for pre-tax versus post-tax deductions.
- Review employee eligibility, deductions, contributions, and retirement-related information for accuracy.
- Research and resolve complex benefits, pension, retirement, and payroll questions.
- Interpret benefits and retirement program information and clearly communicate requirements and solutions to employees and leadership.
- Partner with Human Resources, Benefits, Payroll, and other departments to resolve complex employee issues.
- Identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to benefits, retirement, pension, and payroll activities.
- Assist with audits, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance-related activities.
- Provide timely and professional customer service while protecting confidential employee information.
- Stay informed about changes to benefits programs, retirement regulations, pension requirements, and applicable federal and organizational policies.
- Assist with special projects, system testing, process improvements, and implementation of new benefits or retirement processes.
- Support payroll-related activities as needed, particularly those involving benefit deductions, retirement contributions, and pension calculations.
- Recommend process improvements and help streamline benefits and retirement administration workflows.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent education and professional experience may be considered.
- Prior experience in benefits administration, retirement/pension administration, payroll, accounting, or a related field strongly preferred.
- BenefitFocus experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of TRS and ORP retirement programs highly desirable.
- Experience with pension calculations and retirement contribution requirements.
- Knowledge of SECURE 2.0 provisions affecting retirement plans and payroll processes.
- Experience with Oracle HCM and/or Oracle Fusion Payroll preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple systems, databases, and payroll/benefits platforms.
- Strong understanding of employee benefits and retirement programs.
- Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of assignments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to confidently explain complex benefits and pension information in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Strong judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee, payroll, benefits, and financial information.
