Benefits Manager
Remote, (with occasional onsite in Lehi, Utah)
3-month contract to hire
Pay Rate: $55.00 - $60.00per hr.
This Benefits Program Manager role is a backfill with an opportunity to stabilize and elevate the benefits function. The ideal candidate is a hands-on benefits specialist who can hit the ground running, operate independently, and take full ownership of benefits operations and vendor relationships in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Administer a comprehensive suite of U.S. employee benefits programs, including:
- Medical, dental, vision
- 401(k)
- Life and ancillary benefits
- Support and/or manage leave of absence programs (FMLA, disability, parental leave)
- Own end-to-end benefits operations, including:
- Census file management
- Monthly invoicing, billing, and reconciliation (core responsibility)
- Execute high-volume, recurring invoicing tasks with accuracy and consistency
- Identify and implement process improvements, particularly in invoicing and administrative workflows
Vendor Management (Core Focus)- Manage relationships across multiple benefits vendors simultaneously
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor communication and issue resolution
- Conduct consistent follow-ups to resolve billing discrepancies and service issues
- Ensure accuracy of vendor invoicing and contract alignment
- Monitor and evaluate vendor performance and service delivery
- Support vendor implementations or transitions when applicable (preferred, but not required)
- Perform analytics and reporting, including:
- Utilization tracking
- Cost analysis and projections
- Budget oversight
- Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and leadership
- Support and contribute to benefits-related projects and initiatives
Required Skills:
- Multiple years of dedicated benefits experience (not HR generalist background)
- Proven ownership of benefits programs and vendor management
- Experience supporting mid-to-large employee populations (~1,000+ employees)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Benefits invoicing and reconciliation (required)
- Vendor management and follow-ups
- Census data management
- Strong knowledge of U.S. medical and welfare benefits
- Experience with:
- Workday (Benefits module)
- ADP (payroll)
- Strong analytical capability (reporting, cost analysis, projections)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Bonus Skills:
- Based in Utah or able to occasionally work on-site for onboarding/training
- Experience in a tech or fast-paced environment
- Experience supporting or leading vendor implementations or transitions
- Strong project management experience
- Experience driving process improvements or automation
- Experience managing leave of absence programs
- Exposure to complex or large-scale benefits environments
