Our inpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment program provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for individuals working toward recovery from addiction and co-occurring behavioral health challenges. As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting clients throughout their treatment journey while helping maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct support, supervision, and engagement with clients receiving inpatient substance use disorder treatment services. BHTs help ensure client safety, encourage participation in treatment programming, and assist with the daily operations of the facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Client Support & Monitoring

• Assist with client admissions, orientation, and transition into treatment services
• Observe and monitor client behavior, emotional well-being, and engagement in programming
• Support individualized treatment goals and recovery plans
• Provide encouragement and support throughout the recovery process
• Respond appropriately to client concerns, behavioral issues, and crisis situations
• Build positive therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
• Ensure client safety and adherence to facility policies and procedures

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements
• Observe and document client self-administration of medication as applicable
• Maintain confidentiality of client and organizational information
• Complete required trainings and maintain compliance with program standards
• Communicate relevant observations and concerns to clinical and nursing staff

Program Operations

• Coordinate and supervise daily client activities and schedules
• Monitor facility activities and client movement throughout the program
• Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic treatment environment
• Support clients with daily living activities as appropriate
• Assist the treatment team in delivering high-quality client care
• Participate in team meetings and shift communication processes
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required

Preferred Experience

• Experience in behavioral health, human services, healthcare, residential treatment, recovery support, or related fields preferred but not required
• Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders is a plus

Preferred Certifications

• CPR Certification
• First Aid Certification
• AED Certification

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the facility
• Ability to navigate stairs and various areas of the treatment center
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
• Ability to assist with daily program operations
• Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within an inpatient behavioral healthcare setting and may involve working with individuals experiencing:

• Substance use disorders
• Co-occurring mental health conditions
• Emotional and psychiatric challenges
• Trauma-related concerns
• Crisis situations
• Withdrawal and early recovery symptoms

Employees may be exposed to communicable illnesses and emotionally sensitive situations while providing support services.
