Behavior Support Specialist

Behavior Support Teacher with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist students, staff, and systems through the application of positive behavior supports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A background in regular education, special education, or student services is required, along with a strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, MTSS, and behavioral strategies. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, experience supporting at-risk youth and implementing behavior plans, and proficiency with student data management systems.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Serve as the lead on student discipline using restorative, trauma-sensitive practices

Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral supports, including de-escalation and intervention coaching

Collaborate with staff on the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Support Plans

Support classroom teachers with strategies for behavior management and student regulation

Modeling of best practices

Work cooperatively with building administrators to support a positive school climate

Engage families in the behavior support process and empower them with strategies to reinforce positive behavior at home

Assist with midday building duties, including supervision during lunch, recess, and transitions

Maintain records and analyze behavior referral data to inform practices

Participate in building-level student support and problem-solving teams Serve as a resource for staff in applying trauma-sensitive and culturally responsive strategies

Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership
