Behavior Support Specialist (Position available for 2026-2027 SY only)
Job Description
Education & Certification Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required, and one of the following:
Associate's Degree, OR
48 semester hours of college coursework, OR
WorkKeys/Community College Placement Test AND 96 contact hours in Reading, Writing, and Math
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred (or ability to obtain within first year)
Experience & Skills:
Experience working with all school-aged students in education or behavior support preferred
Knowledge of behavior management, de-escalation, and restorative practices
Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills
Ability to remain calm and patient in high-pressure situations
Understanding of student confidentiality, safety, and behavior policy guidelines
Working Conditions
Daily interaction with students in various school environments
Requires frequent standing, walking, and student engagement
Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs
May involve managing students displaying distress or disruptive behavior
Use of standard office and educational equipment (computers, copiers, etc.)
Essential Abilities
Communicate effectively in oral and written English
Follow instructions and school protocols
Use judgment to solve problems and apply interventions consistently
Adapt to stressful environments and manage emotionally intense situations
Maintain accurate documentation and records
Establish positive working relationships with students, staff, and families
Apply knowledge of school rules, behavior expectations, and classroom procedures
