Technician

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, A Behavior Technician works to establish positive
student contacts that develop appropriate and positive behavior modifications enabling
students to succeed. He/she will assist instructional personnel by participating as a team
member in the development and monitoring of comprehensive behavioral objectives, goals
and plans, including a Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and/or a Behavior Intervention Plan
(BIP).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Implements behavioral programs designed to make positive and appropriate changes.
- Assesses crisis situations and defuses situations using conflict resolution and crisis
management techniques. Utilizes physical restraint techniques, only with proper
training, to redirect behavior.
- Oversees a Guidance Center or In School Suspension room for students needing
assistance outside the classroom setting.
- Evaluates student's needs and provides interventions to redirect behavior while
implementing appropriate consequences to address behaviors
- Works with related agencies to develop an effective program of activities for changing
unacceptable behavior of students.

Job Description
- Accurately maintain school records, i.e. student information, as required by state or
federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based
request, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
- Assists the school site team by monitoring student behavior changes, assisting with
academics, and supervising various activities during the course of the instructional day
to maintain a controlled and safe environment for students and staff
- Consults with teachers, support staff, and administrators to obtain information and
advice on prior behavior problems, and provides information as necessary concerning
behavioral concerns.
- Ensures consistency of behavioral standards by coordinating with appropriate student
contacts.
- Engage with parents/guardians to discuss and address student behavioral concerns.
- Attends IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and student progress meetings as
requested
- Participates in school level, district level and other meetings as directed by supervisor
- Oversees peer counseling groups, social skills instruction, recreational activities, and
other learning opportunities as requested
- Attends and provides trainings regarding safety, security, physical restraints and
behavior management procedures as requested
- Effectively produces professionally written correspondence across various
communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer
- Performs other duties as assigned

Job Description
Two (2) years of college level related
coursework
High School Diploma with additional
specialized training/certifications
Bachelor's degree in Social Service or

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
StrengtSedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligible
amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Note: NCI Intervention may
require a significant physical demand by employees. Force and Strength may vary based on student
need.
Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching,
handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or
over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in
a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a
VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.
Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoors exposure to outside weather conditions
Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.
Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals,
lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to
specific assignment).
