Description

The ideal candidate is reliable, punctual, energetic, patient and comfortable working independently. Because this position opens the program each morning and may be responsible for transporting children to school, consistent attendance and arriving on time are essential. We are looking for someone who understands that families depend on our staff to provide safe, dependable care every day. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A PROGRAM COUNSELOR: Welcome children and families each morning. Actively supervise children and maintain a safe, positive environment. Lead age-appropriate games, activities and morning routines. Complete accurate attendance and child check-in procedures. Prepare children for school and ensure they are safely transported on time. Assist with driving a YMCA vehicle or minibus after completing all required bus driver training and certifications. Follow YMCA childcare, transportation, safety and emergency procedures. Maintain clean, organized and properly stocked program areas. Build positive relationships with children, families, school personnel and YMCA staff. Communicate concerns, incidents or important information to program leadership. Demonstrate the YMCA's values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. *This is not an exhaustive list of job duties. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned. REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PROGRAM COUNSELOR: Must be available consistently Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 9:00am. Must be least 21 years old due to YMCA bus-driver certification and transportation requirements. Minimum of six months of experience working in a licensed childcare or youth program. Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain certification before beginning work. Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to pass all required background checks and meet childcare licensing requirements. Must be able to safely supervise children, remain active throughout the shift and respond appropriately during emergenicies.
