The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting applications for Seasonal Beach and Parks Rangers at the Loch Raven Fishing Center, Miami, and Rocky Point Beaches - Summer Employment.
Schedule: 40 hours per week - Summer Season (Memorial Day to Labor Day)

Definition of Responsibility
This position provides environmental education and watersports programs and oversees the daily operation and maintenance of an assigned facility.
Employees in this position may be assigned to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed throughout the summer, and have days off on weekdays.
Locations: Must have reliable transportation. Facilities are not located on public transportation lines.

Qualifications
Training and Experience
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences, history, or a natural resource or history-related field.
Plus
One year of experience in forest or park management, recreation, or natural resources management, law enforcement, or preparing, developing, or delivering programs that interpret natural, historical, cultural, or recreational features.
OR
Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of park management, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences, or a natural resources-related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Experience as described in Examples of Essential Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience as stated in their application, including their responses to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
Conditions of Employment
Seasonal Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.
Seasonal positions are not included in the Employees Benefits Plan.
Applicants having the ability to work the entire season, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, will be considered first.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
A valid drivers license equivalent to a Non-Commercial Class C Maryland drivers license is required at the time of appointment.

Health Insurance

Employees may elect basic term life insurance for themselves equal to one time the employees annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000. Employees contribute a portion of the premium through monthly payroll deductions. The County also offers an Additional/Employee paid Life Insurance plan with coverage up to $100,000.
Retirement
Employees are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Paid Leave
Sick Leave - Monthly sick leave earnings prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. No maximum on accrual. Accrued balance can be applied toward service credit at retirement.
Vacation Leave - Monthly vacation leave earnings prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. Earnings increase after five, ten and fifteen years of service generally.
Holidays - Part-time 30 to 39 hour non-merit or non-classified employees will generally be paid for ten holidays per calendar year. Other part-time, non-merit or non-classified employees working 29 hours per week or less will receive two paid holidays per calendar year. These holidays are the Christmas holiday and the Independence Day holiday.

Employees in this position may be required to travel to recreation and parks sites, facilities, and meetings throughout the County. Will be required to walk on uneven surfaces, lift heavy objects, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and operate maintenance equipment. Some work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as adverse weather. Possession of a valid drivers license equivalent to a noncommercial class C Maryland drivers license is required at the time of application. A mileage allowance, set by Baltimore County Policy, shall be paid to County employees who use their privately-owned vehicles for official County travel necessary to carry out the required or authorized duties of their positions.
